We were once young fresh, out-of -college and ambitious professionals with a dream of starting our own firm, but we found real quick that it took more than just passion to be exceptional. We had imagined that all we had to be was creative and all would be perfect. But as we grew in the profession, we weren't close to where we had hoped we'd be. We realized we were not able to meet our clients' expectations.
At first, we thought the clients were just unrealistic and being difficult, but things grew worse when we weren't getting enough referrals. It hit home when our long-term clients stopped giving us commissions. Then we knew it was time for a change.
To turn this around, and become better while at it, we needed to find a solution to this problem. We began researching different ways to improve our service delivery and attended workshops and networking events to learn from other professionals in our field. Through our persistence, we discovered the connecting factor for all our clients' needs and goals. They all wanted a designer who was responsive and easy to communicate with, who understood their goals and could deliver high-quality work on time. They also desired a designer who could help them achieve their desired outcome, who could provide a unique perspective, who could be a partner rather than just a contractor.
With this knowledge, we made changes to our business approach and revolutionized the way we offered our service. We got management tools to stay organized and on top of our deadlines. We also made a point of being more responsive to our clients' questions and concerns. We became more proactive in understanding their goals and objectives, and helped them to achieve their desired outcomes. We also enrolled for skill development courses. If we really hoped to please our clients, we needed to get trained, though expensive, they turned out to be worth it.
As a result, our clients were much happier and more satisfied with our work. They felt confident in our ability to deliver high-quality designs on time.
